Ear Infections
Common Childhood Illnesses
Ear infections are a common complication of colds in children. Ear infections result from fluid and mucus collecting in the middle ear. This mucus, like the mucus in the nose, gradually gets infected.
The usual history is that your child has had a cold and maybe even a low grade fever with the cold. Gradually your child is getting better. Then the temperature goes back up and your child gets irritable or has a miserable night. Any of these are symptoms of an ear infection. If these symptoms occur during the night give your child Tylenol, which will help relieve the pain.
Make sure to call us first thing in the morning to schedule an early visit during the day.
