Here at Main Line Peds, we understand that breastfeeding is a complicated and intricate part of the newborn experience! We are proud to now offer in-house lactation consults with our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Ellie Josel and Dallas Muthard.
Lactation Consults are available upon request or referral.
Typically, a lactation consult will last about 1 hour. They involve a detailed history of both mother & baby, as well as an observed feeding, and pre and post feeding weights on a specialized lactation scale.
It is recommended that both mom and dad attend these appointments, as we like to be inclusive of the family as a whole and there's LOTS of information to absorb, of course. Moms should also bring any equipment they use to nurse in order to make it more like home. This may include nipple shield, boppy pillows, blankets, HaaKaa or other suction pump, etc.
You will receive a written feeding plan, as well as a handout with FAQs and resources about breastfeeding at the end of your visit.
